No tension - Relax Please

Written By Hamsi on September 23, 2010 | 9:39 AM

Once when I was in India I was travelling in train. I had a window seat. My neighbour was in 40's and she introduced me as a school teacher. And ya, that time I was in my 20's. We had a good friendly talk about what and where and both of us had the same destination. After and hour we had some snacks and since it was a day travel of 8 hours, we exchanged some magazines and was sticked to it. Then someltime later I felt her head on my shoulder. 'Snooooooooorrr  Snoooooooor' oops she was asleep. I felt pity for her and turned to my books again. After sometime she adjusted to her comfort to lay on my shoulder. I was in trouble now. I found delicate to wake her and disturb the sleep. I couldnt bear her head weight also.  There are three actions I could perform:
  1. To control my pain and let her sleep (SUBMISSIVE)
  2. To shout at her for behaving mannerless (AGGRESSIVE)
  3. To wake her from sleep and give her my window seat so that she can sleep with comfort and I can continue with my magazines. (ASSERTIVE)
I chose the third one and both were settled in peace. If I had chosen any of the first two choices I will be left out in big tension throughout my 8 hr journey and enter into my work with pressure.

Like this being ASSERTIVE in all our actions will be advantageous and wise also. Being assertive in your thought will deliver a clear decision always. When we are assertive even personality becomes a second preference only.
