Lion dance is mainly performed to remove bad or evil spirits as Lion is considered to be a guardian creature for chinese. In Singapore, the Northern style of Lion dance is popular. These types of dance are exhibited during Chineese New year period and also in month of August, the ghost month.
By northern style of Lion dance, two men operate 1 lion mask and dance according to the music with acrobat stunts. The dance is amazing to be watched and will be awesome to watch those acrobat steps like lifting and balancing on a giant ball or jumping on tall thin iron rods. If one of them misses the step ,then totally it would be a great miss.
During New year period the lion dance are conducted on most of the shopping malls, functions and celebrations. The theme would be two lions chase each other and the winner lion opens a curtain that would wish them good luck.
