Food poisoning is mostly the result of improper food handling, preparation and storage. Five keys to safer food has been addressed in Global Education Stratergy by World Health Organisation as:
- Keep clean
- Separate raw and cooked inorder to avoid cross contamination
- Cook thoroughly
- Keep food at safe temperatures
- use safe water and raw materials
There are simple measures. Make sure your hands and all surfaces and equipment used for food preparartion are clean. Separate equipment and utensils such as knives and cutting boards for raw and cooked foods and avoid contact between them. Bring foods like soups and stews to boiling to make sure that they have reached 70C and reheat cooked food thouroughly.
All it takes is a little awareness and vigilance.
Food safety is not just about what you eat. It may be important to know how many calories or cholesterol you are taaking in with the given food, but it is also important to know that it is prepared properly using safe materials. - AFPRelaxnews
